What was your first role here? How did you get to where you are today? What do you attribute to your success?

I started in GOB (GroupOnboarding, Groupon’s sales training program) almost a year ago, and have been drafted to be a Business Development Rep on the Food & Drink vertical. I think persistence and a drive to make money and recognition continue to push me every day. I originally wanted to be an elementary school teacher, but my mother advised me to switch majors because I wouldn’t be able to afford my lifestyle with a teacher’s salary. I also think the fact that I try to get better every single day. I take full advantage of all the resources here and make sure that I’m actively working with colleagues to create new ideas and strategies to implement on a daily basis. Finally, I’ve got a pretty sweet playlist with a bunch of Migos, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, and DMX that get’s me pretty amped to attack every single day with an amazing attitude.

Favorite Groupon memory?

Closing a popular pizza chain in Chicago. It had been a franchise that we’d been trying to work with for a couple years,  but we hadn’t been able to get anywhere with. I was able to get in touch with the right people at the right time and put together an awesome campaign that went all the way up to the CEO’s desk and got approved. It feels really awesome to say that after being out of college for a year, I’m working with CEO’s of major corporations. I know a lot of my friends can’t say the same thing.

What’s your biggest accomplishment working here?

I think my biggest accomplishment so far was being 484% to goal in my first quarter in my vertical. I was a new rep trying to make a name for myself and I immediately showed people that I was a big deal. I got to see my name at the top of the dashboard and GP tracker every week and I can certainly say that people know who I am now.

Who or what inspires you?

My motivation has been and will continue to be the chance to make my parents proud. My father passed away in college and every day I want to make sure I’m doing things that will make my dad proud.

What was your first impression of Groupon?

When I first started working here, my initial impression was that it was a fun, free-spirited place to work. There’s a cat in a spaceship when you walk in and everyone who works here has a unique personality. It’s a work hard, play hard environment that makes coming to work a blast!

What does your mom think you do?

My mom thinks I “call restaurants all day and annoy them until they finally agree to do what I want them to do” because that’s what I used to do to her.

If you could do another job for a day, what would it be and why?

I’d love to be the owner of the New York Knicks so I could fire Phil Jackson and throw the Triangle Offense in the trash so we can start to pick up some talent to play with Kristaps and bring the Championship back to The Big Apple!

Do you participate in the EVP (Employee Volunteer Program) or any of the ERGs (Employee Resource Groups)?

For the last few months, I’ve been a part of the Spark Mentor program. Through this program, I was paired up with an awesome kid from a middle school here in Chicago. I’ve been able to work with him every single week to show him how to take something he’s passionate about and turn it into a business. I joined this program to get involved with the community and be a guiding light in this young man’s life. We’ve been able to come up with an awesome idea for a business and I’m excited to present it with him to his family and friends!

What’s interesting or unique about your role? What sort of impact does your work have on your team or the company?

I specialize in working with new businesses inside the restaurant industry. My role is awesome because I get to work with so many new merchants on a daily basis and help them achieve their goals by showing them the value of Groupon. Something that’s unique about my role is that many BDR’s can’t say that they’ve had the chance to work with so many important people who hold roles at large corporations and restaurant groups. The Restaurant vertical at Groupon isn’t necessarily the highest-profit vertical, however, restaurant deals are some of the most frequently purchased. Because of that, I get to connect restaurants with diners who are always looking for new places to go. There’s no greater feeling than when you put together a campaign for a business that does extremely well and helps the business owner achieve their goals. On my team, I’d like to think that I’m one of the more tenured reps and I love to not only make sure that I’m doing well but make sure that my teammates are, too. This means I go the extra mile to help them track down outstanding agreements and negotiate with business owners that aren’t giving them the time of day. This job is so fulfilling and fun when you and the people around you are doing well, so I try to create and maintain that environment on our team.
