Storage & Automotive Buyer
Soaring to new heights with Marine, a Buyer for Groupon Goods who aspires to spend a day as a pilot in the sky.
Tell us about your job! What do you do? What do you love about it? What does a typical day look like?
Basically, I am buying all the storage and automotive goods (this second category is totally new to me and it is very challenging) for Groupon Goods. Both portfolios were very small when I took them back, so my challenge was to develop them and make them grow and become really profitable. What drives me every day is to reach and exceed the target and negotiations which are both really exciting!
The independence in my job is what I love about working at Groupon. We are all totally free to deal with our targets and achieve our goals in our own way. I am dealing with 600K euros per month, and everyone trusts me and in my capacities to do it. The Groupon team is also very supportive and we are doing big things together.
How does Goods impact the success of Groupon? Why is Goods important to Groupon’s success?
Because we are dealing with a different product, we are seeing the business differently. We are dealing a lot with customer satisfaction and the return rate, which makes our business different and also really interesting, in my opinion. Every team is important at Groupon, and we take part in that story – everyone is important for Groupon’s success!
What’s been the most challenging thing you’ve worked on?
The most challenging thing I have experienced in Groupon is the rapidity of the changes we have to face. In three years, I have worked on three different categories, so adaptation is the main key to success in Groupon!
Who inspires you?
I would say simply, my parents. Because of what they have achieved in their professional life and because of their strong personal values, empathy, and kindness they transmitted to me. Also, people who are successful yet humble inspire me a lot. It means you can make great things, while still remaining a good person.
What was your first impression of Groupon as an employer?
My first impression was “I am going to love this place: people are wearing sneakers all the time and everyone is smiling!”
Have you won any awards?
I won four quarter competitions with two different teams, where I got to travel to Prague, Budapest and soon Naples, and I also won the “Community Award” at the end of 2017.
What’s your favorite Groupon memory?
I think that my favorite Groupon memory is the “American Party” we organized at the end of winter in 2017. It was in an original place and I think that no party has been as crazy as that one! It was a really good moment with all the team.
Where were you before you joined Groupon? How did you get here?
I was working for Zalando, buying thousand of shoes 🙂 A member of Groupon’s HR team contacted me directly via LinkedIn. I was a bit surprised, but at the same time very enthusiastic about this new perspective. I wanted to move from Zalando because I couldn’t grow internally and I wanted to manage a whole category, which I am doing today.
We see you are a member of Groupon Volunteers. Why did you join?
In March 2018, I spent a day volunteering for the “Restau du Coeur” which helps the homeless and poor people get everyday food and healthcare. I am proud that Groupon offers these types of opportunities to each employee. I’ve always cared about those topics (helping people in general) but Groupon gives us the time to do it properly. Everyone at Groupon gets really involved and it creates awesome team building opportunities while caring for people who need it the most.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I contribute to name a special cuvée and it is since named “Bulle des Champs” !
What do your parents think you do?
Since I am buying automotive parts, they think I am the automotive boss…which is not (yet) true!
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be and why?
I would be an airplane pilot because of their suits and the feeling they have in the sky!
