Tell us about your job! What do you do? What does a typical day look like?

I’m a manager for customer service operations in Katowice supporting US and France, so I work on everything that relates to our customers’ first contact with Groupon. My team’s daily focus is based on our core KPIs, so among others, customer satisfaction but also on different initiatives that will help Groupon not only grow customers and their lifetime value but also grow our profitability as a company. To be honest I cannot really describe my typical day because it looks different every day. That’s one of the reasons I love my job!

What’s been the most challenging thing you’ve worked on?

Opening a new site in Katowice was the most challenging thing for me. I was still a Team Lead for Germany in Warsaw and it was a completely new experience for me. We were entering a whole new market with a new customer service center, new processes, and huge responsibility. I was living out of a suitcase for few months. I had a couple stressful situations but overall it was such a positive adventure! I met a lot of amazing people from the Chicago office who were supporting me with this task.

Who inspires you?

My parents. Thanks to them I built a solid base years ago for everything I have achieved recently. They taught me how to be a good person and were always supportive, no matter what comes my way. They are my best friends.

How does your work impact Groupon’s mission of building the daily habit in local commerce?

By streamlining and simplifying processes, gathering ideas for improvement, and hearing the voice of both our customers and the agents who are supporting them on a daily basis. Everything tides up with our four pillars as well as with Groupon values.

Describe the proudest moment you’ve had at Groupon.

I think that being promoted to a manager position. It was amazing feeling when I got the recruitment results. I will never forget that. It made me feel more confident with my knowledge and experience I collected through the time I’ve spent working at Groupon.

Have you won any awards?

Recently I have been awarded with a Groupon Green award! I was so surprised.

Make work less boring.

What does your family think you do?

I think that the best was a comment from my brother, who is 10 years younger than me,”You are giving orders, cause you love to interfere in everyone’s lives, don’t you?” Such a sweet 17-year-old, huh? Please, don’t believe him though! Haha!

Where were you before you joined Groupon? How did you get here?

I was still studying and working as a part-timer (giving private language lessons, translating a little bit) when I got a call from the recruitment team that they are looking for CS front-line reps with German; this is how I started my journey with Groupon. I thought that I would try it—just for few months—and after 3,5 years… I’m still here! 🙂

Your role probably exists at other companies aside from Groupon…so what makes your role at Groupon unique?

I think that Groupon differentiates itself from other companies by the atmosphere. For me Groupon = people. We hire a lot of wonderful and creative people; it’s a pleasure to work with all of them. Also, the possibilities to grow within the company we have are amazing! I’m only 26 and I was promoted for a managerial position almost a year ago. Where else would I have an opportunity like this one?

You probably have a life outside Groupon; what are you up to when you’re not at work?

Music is my passion…maybe a surprise for you, mainly heavy metal. I used to play guitar, nowadays I don’t really have time for that, but I’m trying to attend shows of my favourite bands. Last year I went to the Czech Republic to see KISS, this year I’m gonna see Guns N’ Roses in Chorzów! I also love to travel but it has become more spontaneous recently so who knows where I’m gonna be tomorrow!

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be and why?

I’d love to be a part of road crew for one of my favourite bands to see what’s going on behind scenes. Experiencing it just for one day would be fun!

Luke wins the title of “Most Star Wars Mentions in an Employee Profile”—which we’re sure he’ll appreciate very much.

Tell us about your job! What do you do? What do you love about it?

I am a Divisional Sales Manager for Merchant Development within the Restaurants vertical. My team consists of arguably some of the most self-motivated people at Groupon. It is not easy most days, but the group of people I work with is special. The reps on my team, our leadership, and the department as a whole—it’s the people who make the challenges worthwhile.

What’s been the most challenging thing you’ve worked on?

Spearheading the LivingSocial integration Sales Plan prior to the formal merger of LivingSocialFrom implementing the training with the sales reps to coordinating with all the other departments involved – getting everyone on the same page and continuing momentum was difficult. Ultimately, it was one of the best projects I worked on. I learned so much and accomplished the goal we set out to achieve.

How does your work impact Groupon’s mission of building the daily habit in local commerce?

I firmly believe that almost all restaurants can use Groupon to attract additional customers, which ultimately translates into more revenue for their business. There are very few restaurants out there that are busy 100% of the time. We can help fill the empty seats and create a positive return on a business’s investment.

Have you won any awards during your time here?

I won the Merchant Development Groupon Green Award in 2017 for Respect, Integrity, and Inclusion.

What do your parents think you do?

My grandmother would cut out articles in the local paper about Groupon, mail them to me, thinking I printed coupons for a living.

What’d you do before Groupon? How’d you get here?

I sold legal advertising at a start-up with seven other people in an office the size of a studio apartment. It was a grind, making upwards of 125 calls a day, and we would put clauses in to guarantee a client. When I heard about Groupon, and that businesses only pay for the customers we deliver, it made complete sense to me.

What are your hobbies?

I’m a big Star Wars fan. I’ve had two separate teams pick the name “Team Skywalker” and I’m looking forward to all the new movies that are coming out.

What’s your favorite local business?

Cafe Marie Jeanne in Humboldt Park.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I’ve owned three cars in my life, and all of them have been totaled without me being in them. Two of the cars were hit while they were parked, and the third was totaled in a flood. It was not a great day finding my car submerged in water. Since I have terrible luck with cars, I do not own one at the moment.

What’s your favorite Groupon memory?

My first month at Groupon we had a West Coast party. We dubbed a King and Queen of the West Region. It ended up with a dance party and an employee to be left nameless taking over the dance floor. This individual had dance moves that rival “The Star Wars Kid.” It was quite the introduction to Groupon.

Who or what inspires you?

The people at Groupon. My current and former reps. Mentors, RSDs, RVPs, and other managers who have guided me along the way. I learn so much from the people I work with every day.

What was your first impression of Groupon as an employer?

There were way too many energy drinks in the office. We had some brand I’d never heard and they were everywhere! But seriously, the atmosphere was energizing; everyone wanted to be at work, which was unique in comparison to my previous jobs.

Keep an eye out for Neville: he might have a famous BBQ sauce one day and you heard it from us first!

Tell us about your job! What do you do? What do you love about it?

As a Merchant Development Manager for the Home & Auto team (oil changes, car detailers, etc.), I help cultivate and maintain relationships with local businesses throughout all US markets. I love how no matter the size of the company, all business owners seem to carry a Fortune 500 swag.

What was your first impression of Groupon as an employer?

I got the sense when I first walked through the doors it was ‘a-happy-to-be-at-work’ type of culture. Work hard, play even harder. Things haven’t changed much since 2014.

Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by the unconditional love my children show. Family is the end all be all for me. After a long day, seeing my kids run to the door to greet me when I come home is unmatched satisfaction and why I work so hard. It never gets old and it resets my energy meter immediately. Any parent will tell you it’s one of the best feelings in the world.

What’s your favorite local business?

Guitar Center. It’s the ultimate playground for the home studio musician/enthusiast.

Tell us something about you that might surprise us.

I have literally been working on a BBQ sauce for roughly 7 years. I’m told it tastes great!

How does your work impact Groupon’s mission of building the daily habit in local commerce?

I work with a great team of driven and motivated individuals who are dedicated to not only personal success but making sure the entire unit succeeds. Of course within this unit is the local business merchant we are helping to achieve a positive end result. If the merchant is not winning, we are not winning. And that is not an acceptable option.

What’s the most random thing you’ve witnessed at the office?

Around the time of my first year working at Groupon, I was coming out of the elevator and witnessed a giant T-Rex (a la Jurassic Park) casually walking the halls, scaring the snot out of co-workers, myself included.

Have you won any awards during your time here?

Merchant Development Groupon Green Award 2018 for Inspiration and President’s Club 2018.

What do your parents think you do?

Man, my whole family thinks I totally run the show. They are under the impression I can provide massive discounts on top of the existing deals we offer and one of my aunts is stilling waiting for me to finalize a refund dating back June 2012. Doesn’t matter one bit that I didn’t start working at Groupon until January 2014.

Why did you join Groupon Volunteers?

I’m a huge believer in giving one’s self for the enrichment of others, especially to those in need. This is something my mother instilled in me as a kid and what I try to teach my children today. Being a part of the Employee Volunteer Program just fell in line with my core beliefs.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

As a dad, all of my available free time is dedicated to my kids. A man of many hobbies, my top ‘go to’ I use to relax when the house is asleep is music production and editing.

So if you could do any other job for a day it would be….

Late night Quiet-storm radio DJ. I’m told I have the voice for it.
