Senior Account Manager
An energetic Grouponer to the core, Julia always wants to be at the center of activity. From her high-volume sales job to her internship with the BBC, her energy inspires people around her.
Tell us about your job! What do you do? What does a typical day look like?
My job is very busy. Typically I start my mornings by checking emails, doing admin work, etc. The rest of the day is a mixture of phone calls, getting and signing new deals, and making sure that new ones are ready to go live. As an Account Manager, my job is to maintain the company’s existing relationship with partners, and when you manage hundreds of accounts it does get very busy!
What’s been the most challenging thing you’ve worked on?
I think the role in itself can be challenging at times. It’s become more challenging over the years as I’ve had to partner with bigger and more important accounts.
What was your first impression of Groupon as an employer?
I thought it seemed like a very relaxed workplace compared to where I worked before. People were very social and outgoing and I instantly felt comfortable working here.
How does your work impact Groupon’s mission of building the daily habit in local commerce?
My job is not only to maintain a good rapport with our existing partners but to also connect them with local customers. It’s to ensure that our partners remain on the platform and keep providing new experiences to our customer base.
Describe the proudest moment you’ve had at Groupon.
I was promoted to an Account Manager three months after I joined the inbound team!
What do your parents think you do?
My parents are pretty clear about what I do. According to them I ‘sell vouchers,’ basically.
Where were you before you joined Groupon? How did you get here?
Before I joined Groupon I was working at House of Fraser in a sales role. I decided to apply for Groupon while working there and got the job!
You probably have a life outside Groupon; what are you up to when you’re not at work?
Typically I will go to the gym after work, otherwise, I’ll go for a drink. I meet up with friends on the weekend. I also like trying new places in London (new restaurants/bars) so I always enjoy trying something new during the week or on the weekend. I love traveling, too, so whenever I can I’ll book a flight somewhere!
Your role probably exists at other companies aside from Groupon…so what makes your role at Groupon unique?
Initially, I loved working at Groupon because I loved my job. Now, I also stay because of the people I work with. I have made a lot of new friends since starting and it’s really made this a great place to work!
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be and why?
I would like to work in television production. I did an internship with the BBC after my university degree and I loved working on set. First Assistant director on a TV set would be a lot of fun. The atmosphere on a set is hectic!
What’s your favorite local business?
Hatton Court Hotel, (the local side of it not travel); I’ve worked with them since I started in Account Management and I’ve established a great rapport with the DM.
