Andrea’s story is compelling. You can feel the sense of camaraderie in Milan from how he talks about his Groupon family. But really, this is a public service announcement to fulfill his lifelong dream of hanging out with his favorite zoo animal.
So tell us about your job! What do you do every day?
I worked for two years on the National Team and I was in charge of the partnership development with big Italian brands, building marketing ads focused on reaching their goals. Since the beginning of this year, I joined the EMEA Coupons Team and I am in charge of the Italian market, managing the networks and the advertisers affiliated to Groupon. In both experiences, there is a key and common factor which I really love: building long-lasting relationships with our partners and stakeholders.
What has been the most challenging thing you’ve worked on here?
Surely introducing and guiding Groupon to big corporations as it was founded as a business for local companies. Every single partnership can be considered a real challenge.
How does your work impact Groupon’s mission of building the daily habit in local commerce?
I have the opportunity to be in contact with companies and brands that want to grow in the online marketplace and attract customers. At the same time, I create compelling offers and promotions for customers. When you get the two to meet, a habit is created.
In your opinion, what makes Groupon unique from a Sales perspective?
Groupon was at one time dubbed the fastest-growing company ever, so it is a company that in very few years revolutionized the local business, digitizing many companies around the globe. With an amazing YoY growth, how can’t one be fascinated by it?
What’s your favorite local business?
Tano Passami L’olio: one of the best restaurant in Milan.
What do your parents think you do?
Fortunately, my parents are quite “digital”, my mum uses Facebook, Instagram, and emails…and she’s a Groupon customer! So she knows very well what I do. My father is always complaining about how much money my mum spends on Groupon 🙂 Perfect couple.
Where were you before you joined Groupon? How did you get here?
I started my career when I was still studying, working for an event agency in Milan. I was an Account Manager, managing important tours for some popular Italian beverage brands. I moved to the “digital industry” joining a start-up incubator becoming the business developer of two realities: one coupon company (yes, an old acquaintance of Groupon) and a fashion marketplace. During this experience, I met some people with whom I decided to start a little digital business, a voucher and promo code website, which we sold a year and a half later. Then I heard Groupon’s calling and I decided to start this new adventure.
Take us back to February 2016. What was your first impression of Groupon as a workplace?
My colleagues’ warmth from the very first day. Maybe one of the biggest doubts in changing jobs is the risk of not feeling comfortable inside the new working environment. I can say I felt at home immediately.
What’s your favorite memory at Groupon?
A lot of great memories come to mind, but if I have to choose one, two days after I joined the company there was a fire drill and all the employees went down to the garden. At that moment, looking around, I thought, “How many of us are there?” Crazy! This is my company!
What inspires you?
Every day inside Groupon there is always a chance to relate to people from different cultures, skills, and professional backgrounds and this is definitely a source of inspiration! Outside of Groupon, I find inspiration in Simon Sinek: entrepreneur, author, and TED speaker with his theory about the Golden Circle, which I really recommend!
If you could do any other job for a day, what would it be and why?
Definitely, a “panda nanny!” I’d love to spend one whole day cuddling pandas! It would be amazing.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
I love traveling, especially to exotic faraway places when I have time. I spend most of my free time with my girlfriend and my mates: happy hours, dinners, weekend trips. I have an active social life 🙂 I also like films and TV series so when we are at home we watch a lot of Netflix.
Tell us something about you that might surprise us.
I’m sure that when I said “panda nanny,” this surprised you. 🙂 So, I want to say it again: I would love to spend one whole day playing with pandas!
